Historical overview of True Image Online and early Acronis Cloud storage: file versions, online restoration and account-dependent recovery.

**Historical software reference.** This article describes the named historical release or service.

## Online backup in the earlier True Image generations

True Image Online was an online-backup service for protecting selected files and folders away from the local computer. Later Acronis Cloud pages used related storage terminology. The names alone do not identify the application version or the service attached to a particular account.

## File selection and version recovery

The historical online-backup documentation describes choosing folders, excluding files and retaining versions of changed files. Recovery starts with a copy that was uploaded before the loss. Local data that was never included in a completed backup cannot be downloaded from that archive.

## Check an existing account before relying on it

Locate the account, the protected computer and the recovery date. Check that the required folders are present. Restore a sample into a separate location and verify the content before replacing working files.

Storage allowances and retention rules described for an old service are not evidence of the terms applied to an account today. Keep an independent local copy so that an unavailable connection or account does not block every recovery path.

## Keep cloud product generations distinct

[True Image Cloud](https://find-your-software.com/acronis/archive/true-image-cloud.html) was a separately named package launched alongside True Image 2016.
