PhotoDirector edition scope

This comparison covers the perpetual 2026 release. Standard and Ultra include background and object removal, while Expert-module layer editing and the listed Batch Editor tools belong to Ultra. Check the selected edition before planning a layered or batch-processing project.

PhotoDirector 365 is a separate subscription. Its GenAI Studio, subscription stock content and monthly AI-credit benefits should not be attributed to the perpetual Standard or Ultra editions.

Process a shoot or finish a creative image?

Consider AfterShot Pro 3 when your regular work is selecting photographs, adjusting exposure and color, and exporting consistent sets. Its adjustment layers and regions serve selective photographic corrections; evaluate a separate editor if your deliverable requires a designed composite.

Consider PhotoDirector Ultra when you want guided edits or layer-based compositions alongside the library workflow. Check Standard separately, since the two perpetual editions do not have identical toolsets.

The AfterShot catalog entry describes software version 3. Check support for the exact camera and RAW mode, especially when the camera is newer than the editing release. Do not infer compatibility from the shared RAW extension alone.

Process the same small photo shoot

  1. Open representative RAW files, including the camera modes you normally use.
  2. Select the preferred frames and apply a consistent exposure and white-balance treatment.
  3. Make one local adjustment and export a small set with matching dimensions and delivery settings.
  4. Check fine detail and metadata in the exports, and preserve the source files and adjustment information.

This comparison follows documented tools and workflows. We have not benchmarked processing speed, automatic selection accuracy, denoising quality or RAW rendering using identical files. Keep original photographs, editable work and delivery copies separately, with independent backups.
