O&O SSD Migration Kit 7: archived migration software
Archived product: O&O SSD Migration Kit 7 is retained here as a reference. Development has been discontinued, and the developer states that no further updates will be provided.
Existing users can review the workflow below. For a new migration project, assess a maintained alternative rather than assuming this legacy application covers a current storage configuration.
Understand its HDD-to-SSD workflow
The application duplicates selected drives or partitions from a conventional hard disk to an SSD. Its purpose is migration of existing data to another storage device.
Identify what you need to transfer and distinguish a drive copy from a collection of individual documents. A successful copy still needs to be checked before the original is retired.
Review automatic SSD alignment
During partition duplication, the application checks whether the target is an SSD and adjusts partition alignment for that storage type.
Alignment is a layout consideration, not a promise of a particular speed gain or longer hardware life. This archived page does not claim compatibility with every modern disk or computer.
Confirm source and destination before migration
Check the identity of both devices and preserve any destination data you still need before applying a transfer. Keep an independent backup of important source files.
A second partition on the source disk is not independent protection against that device failing. Verify the selected target instead of relying only on familiar drive letters.
Keep recovery separate from migration reversal
The legacy product description mentions reversing a migration through its treatment of source-drive information. That should not be treated as an independent recovery copy.
Do not rely on reversal to protect your only copy of important data. Preserve verified backups and review the source state before making further disk changes.
Verify the copied data before retiring hardware
After a migration, inspect the files and applications relevant to the transfer. If a system drive was involved, check the intended startup workflow before discarding the original.
Retain the original storage until you have verified the destination. Copying a drive does not repair physical faults or guarantee that every configuration will start successfully.
Review a maintained alternative
The developer recommends O&O DiskImage as an alternative. See O&O DiskImage 23 for imaging, cloning, and prepared recovery workflows.
Our file-backup guide explains independent recovery copies. Review the alternative's own capabilities and license rather than assuming it reproduces every legacy behavior.
