Product comparison
iolo Malware Killer vs HitmanPro
These are close candidates when the task is an additional check for malware already present on a Windows PC. Compare how you start the scan, review reported items and assess the result of cleanup. Their documented analysis methods do not by themselves establish which will detect more threats on your computer.
Compare scanning and protection roles
| Task | iolo Malware Killer | HitmanPro |
|---|---|---|
| Main role | On-demand detection and removal of existing malware | Additional malware scanning and removal alongside existing protection |
| Analysis approach | Suspicious-file analysis, machine learning and a reputation database | Behavior-based file analysis and threat information from multiple security labs |
| Setup | Activate the Malware Killer product in the shared iolo installation framework | A run-without-installation workflow is documented |
| Scope of the license | Standalone activation does not grant every iolo suite component | HitmanPro is separate from the broader HitmanPro.Alert product |
| Cleanup result | Inspect detections and follow the available removal workflow | Review detections and remediation actions, including affected system resources |
| Ongoing protection | Check the active antivirus separately from the on-demand scan | A second-opinion scan is a different role from continuous protection |
Which workflow fits?
Consider Malware Killer for an activated iolo scan workflow
iolo Malware Killer is a candidate when you want its documented on-demand analysis and removal workflow. Confirm the activated product before following instructions: the shared installer can show a suite name even when the license enables only Malware Killer.
Consider HitmanPro for a scan without a conventional installation
HitmanPro documents a run-without-installation approach and analysis using behavior and multiple sources of threat information. That setup can be useful for an additional investigation, but it does not establish a fixed scan time or universal removal success.
Distinguish ordinary HitmanPro from HitmanPro.Alert. The latter adds preventive controls; its features should not be attributed automatically to a standalone HitmanPro scan. For either scanner, review the detected path and classification before deciding what action fits.
Review detections and the protection setup
- Confirm the activated scanner and update its available threat information before starting.
- Record reported paths, classifications and proposed actions rather than judging the result only by a detection count.
- Complete the selected remediation and any requested restart, then review remaining alerts and the original symptom.
- Check ongoing antivirus status separately and retain independent recovery copies of important data.
We have not tested detection coverage, false positives or remediation on identical samples. Removing malware does not guarantee reconstruction of damaged personal files.
