Product comparison
iolo Malware Killer vs HitmanPro.Alert
These products cover different portions of a security routine. Malware Killer is an on-demand removal tool. HitmanPro.Alert includes HitmanPro scanning and adds preventive controls for exploitation and ransomware behavior. Compare the additional role rather than treating the products as identical scanners.
Compare scanning and protection roles
| Task | iolo Malware Killer | HitmanPro.Alert |
|---|---|---|
| Main role | Investigate and remove malware already present | Malware scanning plus proactive risk-reduction controls |
| Included scanner | Malware Killer analysis and removal workflow | Includes the HitmanPro feature set |
| Exploit protection | Do not infer a dedicated anti-exploit layer from on-demand analysis | Additional layers around vulnerable programs are documented |
| Ransomware controls | Removal does not establish recovery of already encrypted files | CryptoGuard examines encryption behavior and provides a mitigation workflow |
| Other preventive tools | The standalone license enables Malware Killer rather than the complete iolo suite | Documented controls include keystroke protection and webcam notifications |
| What to verify | Scan findings, removal results and active antivirus status | Scan results and enabled preventive controls in the installed release |
Which workflow fits?
Consider Malware Killer for an on-demand cleanup role
iolo Malware Killer is relevant when you want to investigate an existing infection and review the available removal actions. Keep the ongoing antivirus role and the recovery plan separate from that scan.
Consider Alert when preventive behavior controls matter
HitmanPro.Alert includes HitmanPro scanning and adds exploit protection and CryptoGuard ransomware mitigation. Those controls operate on a different task from discovering an existing malicious file during a scan.
Check the installed release, enabled features and compatibility with the existing security setup. CryptoGuard's mitigation workflow should not be treated as a universal recovery tool for files encrypted before protection was active. Retained independent backups remain a separate recovery source.
Review detections and the protection setup
- Decide whether the task is additional scanning or ongoing exploit and ransomware mitigation.
- Verify that the selected Alert license and installed build enable the expected scanner and preventive controls.
- Review actual scan findings and protection events without using live malware to test the setup.
- After any remediation, check applications, remaining alerts and the availability of independent recovery copies.
We have not measured exploit blocking, ransomware mitigation or malware-removal success. Preventive protection and recovery of previously damaged data have different practical limits.
Compared products
HitmanPro.Alert includes HitmanPro features. Standalone HitmanPro is a different catalog product and should not automatically be credited with every Alert control.
