Plan advanced drive maintenance with Auslogics Disk Defrag Ultimate
Auslogics Disk Defrag Ultimate combines drive analysis with configurable HDD file placement, SSD-specific optimization, and offline maintenance. It suits users who want to choose how and when storage tasks run.
Start by identifying the drive and reviewing its analysis. A slow application can have several causes, so connect each maintenance action to the workload you want to improve.
Choose a file-placement strategy
HDD algorithms organize files by access time, Prefetch layout, change time, or disk zone. A wizard helps select a strategy around your usage.
Choose a method deliberately rather than running every available algorithm in sequence. Compare the same file-access task before and after maintenance, with other activity kept similar.
Use the method appropriate to your storage
Ultimate detects SSDs and offers an SSD-specific algorithm. HDD defragmentation and solid-state maintenance follow different approaches.
Confirm the selected drive, especially when Windows uses an SSD and project files live on a separate HDD. More extensive maintenance is not automatically more useful; review the action before starting.
Inspect selected files and free space
Analysis includes a fragmented-file list and cluster map. You can target selected files or folders, consolidate free space, and reserve growth space beside specified files.
Use the list to understand the scope of a task. If only a particular project folder needs attention, review that data before processing the whole volume. Leave enough working space for the operation.
Prepare boot-time optimization
Offline defragmentation processes eligible locked system files during startup, including paging, hibernation, registry, and MFT files.
Save open work and keep a current recovery copy before scheduling a restart. Allow time for the operation and review the selected files instead of enabling every boot-time option without a purpose.
Schedule tasks and limit resource use
Scheduling, automatic maintenance, and adjustable resource profiles control when work runs and how much CPU or disk activity it uses.
Avoid competing large transfers and test your settings during a normal work session. Maintenance still consumes resources; adjust the schedule if it interferes with applications you depend on.
Review checks, cleanup, and reports
The application offers pre-task disk checking and cleanup, plus reports and charts for completed work. Advanced functions depend on the selected edition.
Inspect cleanup selections before removal and address reported disk problems before repeating optimization. A completed task does not prove that every performance issue is resolved or that a drive cannot fail.
Compare Ultimate with focused maintenance tools
For a simpler HDD-focused workflow, see Auslogics Disk Defrag. For dedicated solid-state maintenance and monitoring, review Auslogics SSD Optimizer.
Compare the controls you need and the selected license coverage. Optimization does not create a backup, guarantee longer hardware life, or provide a fixed speed increase.
