Product comparison
iolo Privacy Guardian vs ioloVPN
These products address different parts of privacy and can be used together. Privacy Guardian manages selected local browser records and privacy controls. ioloVPN routes traffic through an encrypted connection to a VPN gateway. Choose around what you need to change: stored traces, browser tracking or the network route.
Compare privacy workflows
| Task | iolo Privacy Guardian | ioloVPN |
|---|---|---|
| Primary role | Local browser cleanup and selected privacy settings | Encrypted connection between the device and a VPN gateway |
| Cookies and history | Can remove selected local records and preserve whitelisted site data | A VPN connection does not delete browser cookies or local history |
| Public IP address | Cleanup and extension setup do not establish a VPN network route | Routed traffic uses the selected VPN gateway public IP address |
| Fingerprinting | Extension workflow targets browser tracking; verify browser availability | Changing the network IP address does not by itself remove browser and device characteristics |
| Saved credentials | Separate saved-password cleanup setting | Network routing does not remove or manage saved browser passwords |
| License and setup | Activate Guardian and configure its cleanup and browser controls | Confirm VPN entitlement and set up each device that will use the service |
Which workflow fits?
Use Guardian for selected local traces and browser controls
iolo Privacy Guardian is relevant when you want recurring cookie cleanup, website exclusions or selected Windows privacy settings. Review the saved-password setting independently, and confirm extension support in the browser you use.
Use ioloVPN for a different network route
ioloVPN creates an encrypted connection to a VPN gateway and exposes that gateway's IP address for routed traffic. Choose an available location and check connection status after interruptions. This does not remove browsing records stored on the computer.
Combine the tools by task
You may use a VPN connection alongside browser cleanup and tracking controls. Signed-in accounts can still identify you, and information already submitted to a service remains separate from local cleanup. Check the entitlement for each product rather than inferring access from the shared iolo brand or suite installer.
Check the selected privacy controls
- Decide whether the task concerns local records, browser tracking or network routing.
- For Guardian, configure retained sites and saved-password cleanup, then check extension availability.
- For ioloVPN, confirm an active connection and the intended server location using non-sensitive test activity.
- Test important site sessions after cleanup and VPN reconnection, keeping the two sets of settings distinct.
Neither tool guarantees anonymity or removes records already held by websites. This is a comparison of roles, not a measured ranking of privacy protection.
